Kylin Nelson

Kylin is a fierce human sorceress who uses her mysterious powers to send enemies home with a shocking experience, as long as they survive the storm that is.

Appearance

Kylin is a woman with slightly tanned skin from her years at sea. She is roughly 170 cm tall and is a little chubby from her bad drinking and eating habits. Regardlessly her arms and legs still show some muscle definition.She has a slightly round face with bright blue eyes. Her brown hair is cut into a side cut with her hair hanging to her left. In her left eyebrow she has a ring piercing. She wares a white shirt that has the sleeves ripped off, which shows off the lightning shaped scaring that covers her right arm which crals all the way up to her neck. Over the shirt she wares a black leather jacket with no sleeves and the collar propped up. Around her hips she wares a wide belt with a pouch (component pouch) fastend to the left an to the right a holster which isn't shaped for a gun but for a round object (her diamond). Underneath she wares some dark blue Jeans tucked into a pair of black almost knee high boots.

Backstory

Kylin (Lin for short) was born into a Trading family known for its Whiskey. As she was the youngest of three children she wasn’t brought up to take over the family business and instead as one of the Captains of the family’s trading vessels. She was always known as feisty and stubborn. But those were a few of the qualities that helped her to become known as a natural genius when it came to sailing the sea avoiding or fighting pirates and arriving at the destination.

After her parents passed the business on to her eldest daughter: Rosmerta (who is economically rather smart but ruthless, also called the “Ice Lady”) Lin left the family business due to a very uneasy relationship with her sister. Wanting to explore the world a little by doing something she is good at she took off as a mercenary. For the Dragon League. On one of her early missions her ship got caught in one of the largest storms seen to date. Out of hundreds of ships that were caught in the Storm hers was one of the dozens that survived according to rumors that followed that night. During the said storm she was struck by thunderous lightning bolt that made the the whole ship creaked and many shipmates thought it was the end of the “Artemis”. Surprisingly not only did their captain survive and sprung to her feet mere seconds after the bolt struck the ship was fine. Once safely in port Lin realized she had a new connection with the storm allowing her to channel its energy as magic. Over a couple the next year her ship was and Lin got known as a very dangerous target for pirates and anyone who wanted to cross her.

One she got teamed up with Porof for some good money.On the trip they got on pretty well and spent some fun nights drinking. One night while they were on watch the ship was attacked. Chaos through the whole ship as everyone was trying to find out what was happening. In the Chaos Porof and Lin tried to attack a shadow that seemed to be part of the problem. Lin gets swept of her feet by something and Lands in the dark ocean. As Lin looks up through the water she sees the ship getting torn apart by massive claws. While underwater she got a short gimps of the massive creature about twice as large as the ship. But before she can make out more a heavy plank hits her and drags her down into the depths of the sea.

Family business

The Whiskey they sell is called Nelsons, but most commonly referred to as Nellis or Nelsis. The Nelson own the Silverlight Mansion which is right on the coast. They own the grain field next to the mansion. They have 15 employers and own 5 slaves. They produce two types of Whiskey a blend and a single malt. The blend is directed towards the middle class. A bottle of the bland costs 5 gp and a glass in a pub 5 sp. The single malt is priced at 15 gp per bottle and a glass is 15 sp. It is drunk cold and is better undiluted with water.

Childhood

Kylin Nelson grew up in the rich household of the Nelson family consisting of her parents George and Caroline Nelson, an older sister Rosmerta and a little brother Rubeus.

George and Caroline were loving parents but also very strict. They put a lot of emphases on education and economics. Rosmerta was brought up to take over the family business and thus got more attention form her parents. Even though Rosmerta took the business and the various jobs like a natural, her cold character focused on improving numbers and maximizing revenue (must be noted, Rosmerta actually still cares about the quality of the whiskey and shares this passion with her parents) carried over to the relationship she has with Kylin. Kylin hates the way her sister thinks and doesn't understand why someone wants a desk job and can have so much fun about it. Even though Rosmerta gets called the Ice Queen by business circles and occasionally by the maids in the household Kylin secretly calls Rosmerta the Fat Queen. In contrast she has a fun relationship with her younger brother. They often tried to pull of pranks on their sister together until they realized that the consequences were a lot of the time not worth it. They often spent their young years at the beach playing and talking about pirates.

At 16 talks of trying to arrange a marriage was floating around to help expand the business. These talks were never forceful but to avoid risk of having to go through with this she decided to leave the family's ranch and decided to jump on a trading ship that was loading up the family goods.

Sea Life

The Ship she joined at first was known as the Maryweather. There due to her family name she was treated with respect and joy when the crew mates realized she was quick and very eager to learn the ropes around the ship. The captain of the Maryweather called Captain Davy Haddock. He was a caring mentor and almost a father figure. He tought her how to navigate the seas using the stars. He tought her how to look after the crew and how its crucial that one is liked and that there is no bad blood on the ship at all times. He also tought her how to use the wind always to ones advantage and even to predict it.

She spent 2 years on the ship until she moved on to a more mercenary lifestyle. She moved from one ship to another. One of these journeys she remembers really well. The leading captain of the Kingfish called Mateo de Gamma was a more ruthless captain. He cared less for the crew and more for his own wealth and well-being. Those were some annoying 2 months on sea. There was some whispers going around about mutiny. Only another few months later in harbor she heard from an old crew mate that de Gamma was set out on an island which is part of the Pallium Isles. This experience plus the words of her mentor Davy Haddock have made a permanent mark on Lin and how to lead a ship or a group of people.

Further travels lead to meeting a fun and similar minded Porof which lead them on on fated cruise where a sea monster almost killed the entire crew. Further encounters entailed a few pirates that either lost their ship or a rushed retreat on the pirates behalf. In the following years she built up a small reputation for her self before getting washed a shore as she involuntary gets cought up in the war between the elves and the dwarves.

Spell Casting

As she is a gambler, risk taker and impatient she sometimes tries spells way to powerful for her. If she decides to cast a higher level spell, that she does not master yet, in lower level spell slot she has to roll a percentile check.

• 0-40 Nothing happens, she goes to 0 HP
• 41-90 The spell is cast, she goes down to 0 HP
• 91-100 The spell is cast, she loses 90% of her max HP

If she goes down to 0HP, the DM decides where the spell hits.
