Strennun "The Swirl" Woodenglory

Strennun ‚The Swirl‘ Woodenglory is the son of the esteemed shipbuilder Vodaf Woodenglory. The Woodenglory family has built up an impressive shipbuilding-dynasty down south in the Thanate Empire.

Strennun was always a bit of a small and slender boy while growing up. Unlike his father, with his impressive height of over 6ft and weather beaten shoulderspan of probably around 5ft, Strennun is only slightly above 5ft and has a sickish grey-blueish skintone. Instead of his fathers flowing chestnut mane, he has stringy hair of the colour of an that of old man. The green patches of algae, which seem to appear out of nowhere, no matter how often he washes and thoroughly dries his hair don‘t necessarily seem to help with his image.

"Maybe he could just do the bookkeeping for the business once he‘s older?“ you might suggest? But Strennun is - well, how to put it - dumb as a rock. Even though he can read not all too badly, numbers have always eluded him. He‘d rather spend his days down at the sea, endlessly exploring the seabed, collecting shells and pretty rocks, as his breath under water seemingly never ran out.

His father still loved him dearly and was hellbent to make him the heir of the Woodenglory shipbuilding business. Strennun was understandably not a big fan of that idea and rebelled however he could. The figurative 'Straw that broke the camel‘s back‘ was when he flooded the ballroom of the party his father had thrown him for his 21st birthday. That was the first and last time Strennun has ever seen his father truly angry with him. After an argument of several hours, Strennun was sent on a ship as a deckhand to earn his stripes. Not even two weeks into the ships maiden-journey, it was ambushed by pirates. Strennung was spared but 'transferred‘ into the service of the pirates. He now served as a deckhand on a pirate ship. There he also earned his nickname 'The Swirl‘ because whenever he had to scrub the deck, instead of laboring with a bucket and mop as he was supposed to do, Strennun was able to create a swirl of seawater that did the work for him.

He was miserable and hoped for his suffering to end. One night, on his nightwatch, a gargantuan turtle suddenly surfaced and offered him to make the problem go away... Strennun gladly accepted and at the next landfall, he was tasked by the first mate to go run a few errands - all by himself - but be back before nightfall. That was the first time the crew had ever let him do anything by himself, let alone on land. Strennun suspected the works of the turtle and gladly took the chance. He took off with the little money he had and never returned to that pirate ship.

Now there he was, a boy, dumb as a rock, not very strong and with only a few coins on him and nowhere to go. In the past few weeks he noticed that he had an undeniable talent for pretty much everything sailing-related, so he hung around the docks to find work on different ships and maybe one day go back to his family, but maybe not... who even makes plans in such uncertain times?
